For some people, GLP-1 treatment may reduce the urge or desire to drink, making alcohol feel less difficult to resist.
Our oral formulation is taken sublingually as drops according to your prescriber’s instructions. No injections or pens.
GLP-1 and naltrexone appear to act on separate pathways, so some people are prescribed both.

Researchers are studying whether GLP-1 medications may also influence alcohol cravings and consumption. Early findings are encouraging, but the evidence is still developing.
In a 48-person randomized clinical trial, low-dose once-weekly injectable semaglutide reduced alcohol craving and some measures of alcohol consumption versus placebo. The trial found significant reductions in drinks per drinking day and weekly craving, while not all drinking outcomes changed significantly.
In a retrospective cohort of 83,825 people with obesity, semaglutide use was associated with a 50–56% lower risk of alcohol use disorder incidence or recurrence over 12 months compared with other anti-obesity medications. This was observational evidence and does not establish causation.
A 2026 meta-analysis of five observational cohort studies found GLP-1 receptor agonist use was associated with a 28% lower risk of an alcohol use disorder diagnosis. The authors concluded that larger randomized trials are still needed.
GLP-1 medications are not FDA-approved to treat alcohol use disorder. Alcohol-related use is off-label. The studies above evaluated GLP-1 therapies and formulations that may differ from the compounded oral semaglutide offered by Choose Your Horizon. Published findings should not be interpreted as outcomes of Choose Your Horizon treatment. Individual results vary.
